The Ruthenium series occupies a singular place in F.P. Journe's history. Produced between 2002 and 2006, limited to 99 individually numbered pieces per model, and executed exclusively in platinum, these watches were conceived as a distinct collection within the broader Octa family. What set them apart was not only the dial treatment but the movement finishing itself. Where standard brass movement Journe watches received conventional rhodium plating, the Ruthenium series had their movements coated in ruthenium, a platinum group metal that produces a noticeably darker, smokier appearance on the mainplate and bridges. The effect, visible through the sapphire caseback, is immediately recognisable.
