About the brand

Patek Philippe is a watchmaking brand that has long represented excellence in craftsmanship and design. Founded in the 19th century by Antoine Norbert de Patek and Adrien Philippe, the company has a rich history of innovation, with over 100 patents to its name.

Over the years, Patek Philippe has supplied timepieces to royalty and aristocrats, and has filed patents for a range of innovations, including a precision regulator and perpetual calendar mechanisms for pocket watches. Some of the brand's most iconic timepieces were created during this period, including the first complicated ladies' wristwatch with a five-minute repeater in 1916 and the first wristwatch with a perpetual calendar in 1925.

In 2001, Patek Philippe opened the Patek Philippe Museum, widely regarded as one of the world's foremost horology museums. Housing over five centuries of watchmaking history, including an antique collection featuring timepieces dating back to the 16th century, the museum is a true "Temple to Watchmaking."

About the watch

Discover the timeless elegance of the Patek Philippe Calatrava Pilot Travel Time Ref 5524G, a watch like no other. This exceptional timepiece is truly unique, with its classic design and sophisticated technology setting it apart from any other watch in the Patek collection.

With its intricate details and luxurious white gold case, this pilot's watch is sure to turn heads. The 42mm x 10.78mm case is one of the larger round models from the brand and is made of high-quality materials that guarantee durability and a comfortable fit on your wrist. The thin, curved lugs help it sit snug against the wrist, while the stepped-down bezel is flat and has a slight incline. The large crown at three o'clock and the two lockable pushers at 8 and 10 o'clock are fluted for a slip-free grip and add to the watch's elegant design.

The two pushers are used for adjusting the second time-zone, and they're equipped with Patek Philippe's patented safety lock system. This innovative feature ensures that the pushers won't be unintentionally adjusted, giving you peace of mind and allowing you to stay focused on your journey. The blue lacquer grained finish of the dial is striking and unmistakable, and the applied Arabic numerals in white gold are lume filled, making them easy to read in low-light conditions.

This beautiful timepiece has been designed to meet the needs of travelers, with its ability to show two different time zones, ensuring you are always on time, no matter where you are in the world. The blued cathedral-style hands for the local hour and minutes are also easy to read, and the white home time hour hand is skeletonized and not luminous, providing a beautiful contrast against the dark navy blue dial.

Although it may have been met with skepticism when it was first introduced, the ref 5524G has proven itself to be one of the most popular models in the Calatrava collection. Its unique design, sophisticated technology, and unparalleled quality have captured the hearts of watch enthusiasts all over the world. It's no surprise that the ref 5524G is one of the few Calatrava models to trade at close to retail on the secondary market.

In conclusion, the Patek Philippe Calatrava Pilot Travel Time Ref 5524G is a masterpiece of watchmaking that combines classic elegance with innovative technology. With its luxurious white gold case, intricate details, and striking blue dial, it's a watch that's sure to turn heads and become a treasured part of any watch collection.

The Tiffany Stamp

As a watch expert, it is with great pleasure that I explore the longstanding partnership between two of the world's most renowned luxury brands: Patek Philippe and Tiffany & Co.

Established within two years of each other, these two brands have forged an unbreakable bond over the past 170 years. In 1851, Patek Philippe and Tiffany & Co. entered into a partnership agreement that appointed the American jeweler as the first official retail partner for Patek Philippe timepieces in the United States. This was a significant milestone in the history of both brands, and it marked the beginning of a fruitful relationship that has stood the test of time.

Antoine Norbert de Patek, on his first business trip to the new world, was deeply impressed by the business volume of Tiffany & Co. and by a large order of 150 watches. He reasserted the special nature of the relationship during his visit to Charles Lewis Tiffany in New York. In 1876, the two companies signed a new agreement that appointed Tiffany & Co. the general representative for the United States, safeguarding the interests of Patek Philippe & Cie. as if they were its own.

This commitment to each other's interests is evident even today. In the Patek Philippe Salons in Geneva, there is a large steel vault formerly owned by Tiffany & Co. and decorated by an American eagle sporting two flags, serving as a reminder of the solid transatlantic relationship.

In the early 1900s, Tiffany & Co. played a vital role in introducing Patek Philippe to major American timepiece collectors like Henry Graves Junior. This resulted in Patek Philippe crafting an extensive range of complicated watches, which further cemented their reputation as the premier watchmaker.

Fast forward to 2008, Patek Philippe deepened its partnership with Tiffany & Co. by opening a boutique within the famous Tiffany retail venue on Fifth Avenue, which is currently undergoing extensive renovation. Since the turn of the century, Patek Philippe has created several limited special editions for Tiffany, double signed by both brands on their dials, marking important dates in their history.

It is worth noting that Tiffany & Co. is the only retailer in the world whose name appears on a Patek Philippe dial, making these watches highly sought-after by collectors. The collaboration between these two iconic brands is a testament to the enduring power of exceptional craftsmanship, innovative design, and unwavering commitment to excellence.

As a luxury watch expert, I cannot help but admire the remarkable history and the dedication of Patek Philippe and Tiffany & Co. to delivering exceptional quality to their discerning clientele. The partnership between these two brands is a true masterpiece of horological and retail excellence.
