About the brand

Since the introduction of its first watch in 2001, Richard Mille has fundamentally challenged conventional ideas of what a luxury mechanical watch should be. Rather than looking exclusively toward the traditions of classical Swiss horology, Richard Mille drew inspiration from Formula 1, aerospace engineering, high-performance materials and elite athletics.

The result was a radically different approach to haute horlogerie.

Richard Mille watches expose rather than conceal their mechanics. Skeletonized movements, tonneau-shaped cases and highly technical materials became defining characteristics, while titanium, carbon composites and advanced ceramics allowed the manufacture to create mechanical watches that were both exceptionally complicated and remarkably resistant to physical stress.

Sport has played a particularly important role in establishing this philosophy. Rather than simply sponsoring athletes, Richard Mille became known for having them actually compete while wearing its watches. Rafael Nadal played professional tennis wearing a Richard Mille tourbillon; Bubba Watson competed on the golf course with one; and Yohan Blake wore Richard Mille while sprinting at the highest level of international athletics.

These partnerships became real-world demonstrations of the brand’s central proposition: haute horlogerie could be lightweight, technically sophisticated and genuinely wearable under extreme conditions.

The RM 61-01 Yohan Blake is an especially pure expression of this philosophy. Its ceramic construction, skeletonized titanium movement and unconventional architecture were developed around the demands of an elite athlete rather than the conventions of traditional dress watchmaking.

Today, Richard Mille occupies a unique position within contemporary collecting. Its watches are instantly recognizable, production remains limited relative to demand, and discontinued references tied to the formative years of the manufacture have developed an increasingly important following.

The RM 61-01 captures the disruptive character that made Richard Mille one of the most influential modern watch brands — a mechanical object where material science, contemporary design, elite sport and traditional Swiss watchmaking collide.

About the watch

The Richard Mille RM 61-01 Yohan Blake is a watch born directly from the relationship between extreme athletics and extreme mechanical engineering. Created for Jamaican sprinter Yohan Blake, one of the fastest men in history, the RM 61-01 evolved from the extraordinary RM 59-01 Tourbillon that Blake famously wore while competing on the track.

Richard Mille’s objective was not simply to attach an athlete’s name to an existing watch. The RM 61-01 was conceived as a genuine performance timepiece capable of enduring the acceleration, impact and rapid changes of direction experienced by a world-class sprinter.

Its instantly recognizable tonneau-shaped case is constructed using highly advanced materials, with this coveted execution distinguished by its black TZP ceramic bezel. The material offers exceptional resistance to scratches and wear while remaining remarkably light — qualities that align perfectly with Richard Mille’s pursuit of watches that can withstand sporting environments without sacrificing haute horlogerie.

Beneath the sapphire crystal is one of the most visually distinctive elements of the RM 61-01: its fully skeletonized architecture. Instead of a conventional dial, the wearer looks directly into the mechanics of the watch. The asymmetric bridges sweep across the movement in an organic formation inspired by the claw-like bridges of Blake’s RM 59-01 Tourbillon, creating a design that appears to be in motion even when the watch is stationary.

At its heart is the manually wound Calibre RMUL2, a skeletonized movement constructed around a grade 5 titanium baseplate and bridges. The movement beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour and provides approximately 55 hours of power reserve.

Its engineering extends beyond weight reduction. Richard Mille subjected the movement to impact testing exceeding 5,000 g, reinforcing the philosophy that complicated mechanical watches need not be delicate objects reserved for formal occasions. The RM 61-01 was designed to be worn — and worn hard.

Even the orientation of the movement reflects its athletic origins. The calibre was rotated to optimize its placement within the case and accommodate the unusual bridge architecture, demonstrating the extent to which Richard Mille was willing to rethink traditional watch construction around a specific wearer and purpose.

The result is a watch that captures the essence of early Richard Mille particularly well: futuristic materials, visible mechanics, unconventional architecture and an authentic relationship with elite sport.

Now discontinued, the Richard Mille RM 61-01 Yohan Blake Black Ceramic represents an increasingly compelling chapter in the manufacture’s history. It predates today’s enormous demand for Richard Mille sports watches and comes from an era when many of the brand’s most recognizable ideas were still being established. For collectors, it offers both the unmistakable wrist presence associated with Richard Mille and a direct connection to one of the brand’s most memorable athlete collaborations.

At The Second Hand Club, we are committed advocates for the exceptional quality of our curated selection of pre-owned timepieces and mechanical objects. In the event of an unexpected issue, we remain committed to addressing it promptly and effectively. Our client's trust and satisfaction are paramount to our entire team.

Each pre-owned watch in our collection has been meticulously examined using non-intrusive methods to confirm their mechanical integrity. Where necessary, servicing has been performed to guarantee they align with our highest standards for timekeeping precision and functional performance.

Unless explicitly indicated, our pre-owned watches are protected by either a comprehensive or a limited warranty for a period of twenty-four months. However, this warranty does not cover damages resulting from accidents or misuse. Given their vintage status, pre-owned watches may not withstand the same conditions as brand new models.
