About the brand

Simon Brette represents a new and compelling chapter in contemporary independent watchmaking, one defined not by nostalgia or provocation, but by humility, rigor, and an almost radical respect for craftsmanship. In an industry often driven by legacy names or spectacle, Brette has emerged through a quieter, more demanding path: one that places construction, finishing, and the dignity of artisanship at the very center of the watchmaking endeavor.

Before founding his own brand, Simon Brette built his reputation behind the scenes as a movement constructor and technical collaborator. He worked on complex projects for established independent maisons, gaining firsthand experience in the realities of modern haute horlogerie, where theory must meet manufacturability, and where excellence is measured not only by innovation, but by execution. This formative period shaped Brette’s worldview: that true watchmaking progress comes not from novelty alone, but from mastering fundamentals at the highest possible level.

When Brette introduced his own work, it was immediately clear that his ambitions were philosophical as much as mechanical. His watches do not attempt to reinvent timekeeping. Instead, they ask a more difficult question: how refined, how honest, and how well-finished can a modern wristwatch truly be when no compromises are accepted? The answer is found in the Chronomètre Artisans, a watch that feels less like a product launch and more like a manifesto.

Central to Brette’s identity is his insistence on transparency and attribution. The name “Artisans” is not marketing poetry; it is literal. Brette openly credits the engravers, finishers, and specialists who contribute to each component, challenging the traditional notion of the solitary watchmaker-genius. In doing so, he reframes independent watchmaking as a collective pursuit of excellence, one where mastery is shared, acknowledged, and preserved. This approach resonates deeply in a time when true handcraft is increasingly rare and often obscured.

Mechanically, Brette’s work demonstrates a profound respect for classical construction. His movements are manually wound, architecturally coherent, and finished to standards that invite close inspection rather than distant admiration. Polished bevels are sharp and intentional, surfaces are thoughtfully contrasted, and components such as wolf-tooth gears and hand-finished chatons are executed not as decorative gestures, but as functional expressions of care. There is nothing gratuitous in the finishing; every detail exists because it should.

Equally important is Brette’s restraint. His designs avoid visual noise, allowing texture, proportion, and depth to speak quietly but confidently. Dials are richly engraved yet balanced, cases are contemporary without being trendy, and overall proportions reflect a watchmaker who understands that longevity is born from discipline, not excess. These watches are not designed to shout their rarity, they reveal it slowly, to those willing to look.

What makes Simon Brette particularly significant is not just the quality of his output, but the timing of his emergence. He represents a generation of independent watchmakers who have absorbed the lessons of the last three decades, technical innovation, creative freedom, and collector scrutiny and chosen to respond with rigor rather than reaction. His work suggests that the future of haute horlogerie may not lie in louder complications or more radical forms, but in deeper respect for craft, collaboration, and mechanical truth.

In this sense, Simon Brette is not positioning himself against tradition, nor leaning on it. He is extending it. His watches feel less like statements of ego and more like carefully written chapters in an ongoing story, one where the value of time is mirrored by the time invested in making something exceptional. For collectors who value substance over spectacle, and integrity over hype, Simon Brette stands as one of the most meaningful voices in modern independent watchmaking today.

About the watch

This Chronomètre Artisans Edition Titane features a beautifully proportioned 39 mm titanium case, superbly executed to balance strength with subtle presence on the wrist. Within, the hand-wound SBCA calibre demonstrates an extraordinary level of finishing typically reserved for far more established independents: bridges and components with contrasting polished and satin surfaces, wolf-tooth gears with polished spokes, hand-finished chatons, and concave mirror-polished screws all speak to a level of artisanal care rarely seen today.

The dial itself is a testament to master craftsmanship, engraved with an intricate motif that gives the watch both visual depth and character. Every detail, from the movement architecture to the finishing on the dial and case, reflects Brette’s philosophy of elevating the work of traditional artisans, giving credit and visibility to the skilled hands whose efforts are usually unseen.

Produced in a limited edition with extremely restricted availability, this Chronomètre Artisans in titanium was eagerly anticipated and sold out rapidly upon release. Today, a watch of this calibre and provenance stands as a remarkable achievement of contemporary haute horlogerie and a treasured addition for serious collectors who appreciate mechanical purity, refined finishing, and the story behind its creation.
